Changing Medications

1.   If you haven't already, go to the Medications module.

2.   Click the medication you want to change to display all fields currently entered. If applicable, click Alternatives to display alternative medications to prescribe in place of the current medication.

Note: You must reselect the Rx option, if applicable. The LMR does not retain previous selection of this option.

3.    If desired, update the medication dose.

4.   Change the remaining fields as desired. Fields include Special Instructions, Frequency, Duration, Dispense, Refills, Start Date, End Date, and Expire. You can also change options for PRN, No Substitutes, Administered in Office, Patient Educated, Patient Understands, and Rx. Modify the Comments field, if necessary, by typing over text.

Note:

5.   If using the Rx option, be sure the appropriate Retail Pharmacy/Mail Order option is selected. You will not be able to change your selection when electronically sending this prescription.

6.   If you want to send a second copy of this prescription to the other pharmacy type (retail or mail order), click Add 2nd Rx. This is typically useful if you want to simultaneously process a 30-day retail supply and a 90-day mail order supply of this medication. For details, click here.

7.   Click Ok.

Note: You can also choose to have the medication, preset with these changes, added as a favorite for you or your practice.

8.   If you want to save and sign your work now, click OK & Sign. The LMR indicates the changes that will be saved, and allows you to electronically send or print prescriptions, if applicable (see Related Topics). Type your key and click Sign.

9.   Depending on your set up, you may be prompted to select a cosigner or sign for a provider. See Selecting a Cosigner and Signing and Saving for a Provider.
