Renewing medications updates the start date to today's date and allows you to print a copy of the prescription (if the Rx option is selected).
1. If you haven't already, go to the Medications module.
2. If you will be printing a prescription, check the location indicated in the upper right corner. If the location indicated is different than the location you want to use for your prescription header, update it (see Changing the Clinic).
3. Click the check box to the left of each medication you want to renew.
4. Click Renew.
5. Click Ok.
6. If you want to sign and save your work now, click OK & Sign. The LMR indicates the changes that will be saved, and allows you to electronically send or print prescriptions, if applicable (see Related Topics). Type your key and click Sign.
7. Depending on your set up, you may be prompted to select a cosigner or sign for a provider. See Selecting a Cosigner and Signing and Saving for a Provider.
Notes:
When renewing a single medication, you can select an alternative medication using the Payor Formulary. For renewals, after you select an alternative medication, you should write a new Rx for the alternative medication and there should be no renewal of the original medication that was previously selected. If you are renewing multiple medications at the same time, the alternatives function will not be available.
A message will display on the Rx prescription pad if the dosage/frequency was suggested for age-based dosing (Gerios) or renal dosing (Nephros) when the medication was orginally ordered. See Responding to Prescribing Alerts for more details.
