Instructions for Adding a Second Prescription for the Same Medication

Click Add 2nd Rx to generate an additional copy of this prescription to send to another pharmacy. This is typically useful if you want to simultaneously process a 30-day retail supply and a 90-day mail order supply of this medication. Note that this can only be used when both prescriptions are for the same medication name, dose strength, and frequency.

Clicking this option displays a second set of the following fields: Duration, Dispense, Refills, Start Date, End Date, Expire, and Retail Pharmacy/Mail Order option. Use the Expire option to have the LMR automatically move the 30-day retail supply medication to the patient's inactive list. Otherwise, the LMR includes duplicate entries for this medication indefinitely on the patient's active medications list.

Be sure the Retail Pharmacy/Mail Order pharmacy option is properly selected for both prescriptions. By default, the LMR selects "Retail Pharmacy" for the first prescription, and "Mail Order" for the second. You cannot use this option to send prescriptions to two different pharmacies of the same type (retail or mail order).

After you sign for these entries, the LMR displays a preview of all prescriptions to be electronically submitted for your session. Two listings of each prescription display with labels for Retail and Mail Order. The pharmacy used for each type defaults from the patient's pharmacy favorites but can be changed to any pharmacy associated with this patient. Note that option buttons in the left pane allow you to sort prescriptions by either Med Name (alphabetically) or Pharmacy Type (Retail or Mail Order).

To complete the electronic transmission of all prescriptions, click Send. If you select the print option along with the send option, the prescriptions designated for Retail print first, followed by Mail order-designated prescriptions.
