Nursing orders indicate that the selected patient has smoked cigarettes within the last year. MDs, NPs, PAs, and CNMs writing orders for this patient are prompted to consider options for nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). See also: Overview of Nursing Orders.

To continue:
Click one line in the top grid (required).
To order a nicotine patch, click the option for the dose you want. You will have the option to order PRN nicotine lozenges as well (see next step).
To order PRN nicotine lozenges only, click to select the option.
To leave the decision for the next ordering provider, click the option to Defer ordering the patch. You will have the option to order PRN nicotine lozenges as well (see next step).
To decline, and prevent this prompt from recurring, click the last option.
If needed, click to select the option for PRN nicotine lozenges, in the bottom section.
If declining nicotine replacement and tobacco cessation treatments:
Click to select an option from the Reason drop-down list when prompted.
If you select Other, type to describe your reasoning.
Click OK (ALT+O).
