Overview of Nursing Orders

• The nursing orders prompt is presented to RNs on selecting a patient who does not have nursing orders completed.

• Nursing orders can be completed at any time using Nursing Orders from the UCM.

• Nursing orders include the tobacco treatment plan from general care, and consults for nutrition and food services, chaplaincy, and social services.

• Smoking status (tobacco use in the past year) is required within 24 hours of admission for all patients over 12 years old. The status is optional for patients ages 1 through 12. The question is not asked for neonates.

• Nursing orders do not require a cosign.

• Nursing orders are automatically transcribed/RN reviewed on signing.

• Nursing orders are prefaced with [RN Order].
