Write Nursing Orders (No Template)

• If you haven’t already:

1. Select the patient.

2. Click Nursing Orders (ALT+N).

• Tobacco treatment (required for all patients older than 12 years):

1. Click General Care (ALT+G).

2. Click Health Habits (ALT+H).

• Click To select Yes, No, or Unknown from the associated drop-down list to indicate whether the patient has used tobacco in the past year.

• If the answer is Yes and the patient should receive nicotine replacement therapy, the medication must be ordered by an MD, NP, or PA

• Type a comment as needed.

• Click OK (ALT+O).

4. Click Close (ALT+C).

• Consults:

1. Click Consults (ALT+C).

2. Click Add (ALT+A).

3. Click to select a consult as needed (for nursing orders, he options are limited to consults that do not require cosign).

• Food and nutrition

• Social service

• Chaplaincy

4. When prompted for reasons:

• Click to check one or more options for each consult order.

• For Other, type a description.

• Click OK (ALT+O).

• Click to access the reasons for consult for editing.

5.  Select a time (Now, Today, Tomorrow, or Other).

6. Select the anticipated date of discharge (This AM, Today, Tomorrow, Date Unknown at This Time, or Other). For Other, type a description when prompted, then click OK (ALT+O).

7. Click OK (ALT+O).

8. Repeat for each consult needed.

9. Click Close (ALT+C).

• Sign the orders:

1. Click Sign (ALT+S).

2. When prompted, type your clinical key.

3. Click OK (ALT+O).
