Write Nursing Orders When Prompted (Nursing Admission Template)

•  If you haven’t already, select the patient.

• For a new admission, when prompted, click the option to proceed to enter nursing orders, then click OK (ALT+O).

• Complete the orders:

1. Tobacco treatment (required for all patients older than 12 years):

• At the question of whether the patient has used tobacco in the 30 days before being admitted, select from the drop-down list.

• If the answer is Yes and the patient should receive nicotine replacement therapy, the medication must be ordered by an MD, NP, or PA.

• Type a comment as needed.

• Click to select Yes, No, or Unknown from the associated drop-down list to indicate whether smoking is allowed in the patient's home or car, to assess exposure to secondhand smoke.

2. Click to select one or more consults as needed:

• Food and nutrition

• Social service

• Chaplaincy

• Pressure ulcers

3. When prompted for reasons (the prompt occurs as soon as you check the consult item. Each consult prompts with applicable reasons):

• Click to check one or more options for each consult order.

• For Other, type a description.

• To access the full consult order, click Consults (ALT+C). The full order includes fields to specify the person to consult, time, history and questions to be answered, probable diagnosis, precautions, and anticipated day of discharge. See Ordering Consults .

• Click OK (ALT+O).

• Click to access the reasons for consult for editing.

4. Click OK (ALT+O).

• When prompted, type your clinical key, then click OK (ALT+O).
