Order Lab Tests—Other

 

 

  1. Select the patient.

  2. Click Write (ALT+W).

  3. Click Laboratory (ALT+O).

  4. Click Other (ALT+O).

For all text entry fields, there is a limit to the length of the entry. The total characters used/total characters allowed is displayed to the right of the field in parentheses ().

  1. Set the collection time—Routine or STAT; Already Collected, Fasting

SuperSTAT specimens should be delivered via the appropriate pneumatic tube. Label appropriately.

Stat collections are limited to x1 frequency and 1 total. Start time defaults to Now; options are limited to Now, In PACU, Specific Date/Time, and Other.

Already collected orders are limited to x1 frequency, 1 total, and the start time Now.

  1. If the need for testing depends on a specific condition, click Draw if/when.

  1. Type a description of the condition(s) for collecting the specimen for testing.

  2. Click x1 for a single collection, or until discontinued to monitor the condition until the order is discontinued.

  3. Click OK (ALT+O).

Draw if/when orders are limited to x1 frequency, 1 total, and the start time Now.

  1. Select a frequency if needed. For Other, type a number, then select Hours, Minutes, or Days.

STAT, draw if/when, and already collected specimens are limited to x1 (one time) frequency.

  1. If more than one collection is needed, select from the Total Collections list.

STAT, draw if/when, an already collected specimens are limited to x1 (one time) collections. You must select a total greater than 1 for orders with other than x1 frequency to set the duration of the order.

  1. For Other, when prompted, select an option from the total number list. Note the guidelines for calculating the total number of collections per day from the frequency.

  2. Click to check one or more reasons for the prolonged collection. For Other, type a description.

  3. Click OK (ALT+O).

In AM orders written after 7 a.m. and before midnight are dated for tomorrow. In AM orders written after midnight and before 7 a.m. are dated for today.

  1. For labs collected for research or occupational health, click Special Billing.

  1. Click either the protocol or occupational health option.

  2. For research protocols, type at least the name of the study. If known, type the names of the principal investigator and/or study coordinator. Type the Peoplesoft special billing number if available.

  3. Click OK (ALT+O).
