Processing Review Med List Requests

Note: The following applies only if the patient's medication list includes Review Med List requests. Currently, this functionality is limited to a few practices (such as the MGH Cancer Center) where non-prescribing providers communicate medication changes to prescribing providers.

1. If you haven't already, go to the Medications module. Patients with Review Med List requests include a column labeled "Medication Approval Request." These requests are only visible to providers within the associated practice.

2. Do one or more of the following (based on active requests):

Add medication
a. Before proceeding, make note of any requestor comments (indicated in red text, to the left of the Add button).

b. Click Add. The LMR attempts to find the requested medication in the database.
- If the correct match is found, click the link for the medication name.
- If not, try searching for a different search string (more, fewer, or different letters) and click Lookup. Click the link for the medication name.
Note: To assist you, the LMR displays Alert messages if you enter duplicate medications or medications that conflict with other patient information (such as allergies, labs, or other medications). See Responding to Medication Alerts for details.

c. Complete the remaining fields, including any previously noted comments into appropriate fields.

d. Click Ok (ALT+O).
Edit a medication

a.   Before proceeding, make note of any requestor comments (indicated in red text, to the left of the Update button).

b.   Click Update. The LMR displays the Medication Edit form.

c.   Complete any updates, including any previously noted comments.

d.   Click Ok (ALT+O).
Renew a medication

a. Before proceeding, make note of any requestor comments (indicated in red text, to the left of the Update button).

b. Click Renew. The LMR displays the Medication Edit form.

c. Complete any updates, including any previously noted comments.

d. Click Ok (ALT+O).
Verify a medication

Click Verify.
Discontinue a medication

a.   Before proceeding, make note of any requestor comments (indicated in red text, to the left of the Update button). Comments may include the reason the patient has stopped taking the medication.

b.   Click Discontinue. The LMR prompts you to indicate the reason for discontinuing.

c.   Click the appropriate option.

d.   Click Ok (ALT+O).
Delete a Med List request

Click Reject. The LMR immediately removes the entry from the patient's medication list. You do not need to Sign to complete this action.

Note: Requests are removed as soon as you select an action. You cannot undo or restore them.

3. If you want to save and sign your work now, click OK & Sign. You can electronically send or print prescriptions, if applicable (see Related Topics). Type your key and click Sign.
