Adding Allergies

1.   If you haven't already, go to the Allergies module.

2.   If allergies are unknown, click Allergies Unknown or NKA, as applicable. Go to step 9.

Note: The Allergies Unknown and NKA buttons will only display if there are no allergies on the patient's active list.

3.   Click Add New.

4.   Click to select the type of allergy (drug, food, environmental, or imaging contrast media).

5.   Click to select an allergen from the list on the left. If the allergen you want to add is not listed, type it into the Other field. For drug allergies, click Drug Lookup after typing three or more letters. Then, click the drug name to select it.

Note: If you do not find the drug name you want to add, click Cancel and try entering a different search string (more, fewer, or different letters). Although the LMR allows you to specify medications that are not in the LMR dictionary, doing so should be avoided.

6.   Specify one or more reactions and the overall severity.

7.   If desired, click into the Comments field and type additional information.

8.   Click Ok or Ok-Add New.

9.   If you want to save your work now, click Sign (F10). The LMR indicates the changes that will be saved. Type your key and click Sign.

10. Depending on your set up, you may be prompted to select a cosigner or sign for a provider. See Selecting a Cosigner and Signing and Saving for a Provider.
