Active orders must be discontinued—they cannot be deleted from the patient record.
Discontinued orders can only be restored before signing. Once these orders have been signed, you must write a new order to restore them.
Orders discontinued in response to a Drug-Drug Interaction alert cannot be restored manually. If you delete the new medication order that replaced the discontinued order, the original is restored automatically.
To D/C an active order:
If you haven't already, select the patient, then click Write (ALT+W).
Click the appropriate button in the Add New Order section to open the window for that type of order. All active orders of the type you selected appear in the Current Orders table.
Click the line that contains the order you want to discontinue. Alternately, press the down arrow to highlight the appropriate line.
Click D/C (ALT+D). The D/C order is listed as a new order.
Click Close (ALT+C) to display the list of orders for this session.
Write additional orders as needed, then sign the session.
