Enter Patient Weight and Height (Non-chemo Methylprednisolone)

• This prompt is triggered when ordering methylprednisolone dosed by mg/kg or mg/m2. The option is available only for ambulatory sites at MGH, DFCI, and NSMC.

• This record is not used in calculations for orders for chemotherapy regimens and protocols. Chemo weight and height entry and verification are handled separately when writing and activating chemo and chemo-related orders.

• Enter weight and height:

1. Type a weight in either the kg (kilograms) or lb (pounds) field. Press TAB to move to the next field quickly. Alternate units are calculated automatically.

2. Type a height in either the in (inches) or cm (centimeters) field. Press TAB to move to the next field quickly. Alternate units are calculated automatically.

3. Pressing TAB or clicking OK displays the calculated BSA (body surface area, in square meters).

4. Click OK (ALT+O).

• If you decide to change to a different weight-based dosing method, click Cancel (ALT+C) and look up methylprednisolone again.

• Orders for non-chemo methylprednisolone that are written with mg/kg or mg/m2 dosing cannot be edited. To change the dosing method or weight and height record, delete, discard, or discontinue the order, then write another as needed.
