The default options and settings are determined by age group. To remove the override of the age group for a neonate, see Changing a Neonate Age For Orders.
If you haven't already:
Click Write (ALT+W).
Click Respiratory (ALT+P).
Click O2 and Aerosol Therapy (ALT+O).
Some respiratory orders are available only for inpatients.
Complete the form
The option for O2 therapy: evaluate patient for most effective device is selected by default. To change, click an option (or press ALT + the underlines letter) to select one oxygen or aerosol therapy from the list under Select a Method.
If appropriate, type lower and upper limits to define a target SpO2 range for therapy. This information is required for the following orders: O2 Therapy evaluation; Aerosol O2 Therapy, Humidified O2 to Tracheostomy, and High Flow O2 Therapy set to titrate to range; O2 Nasal Cannula, Simple Face Mask, and Ventimask when the D/C therapy on achieving the target SpO2 checkbox is checked.
For O2 Nasal Cannula, Simple Face Mask, and Ventimask, click the D/C checkbox if you want the treatment stopped on achieving the target SpO2.
Complete the order as follows for these selections:
O2 Therapy evaluation: Click to select O2 Flow Rate or O2 Amount option. Select a Start Dose and Adjustment limitation from the corresponding drop-down lists. The SpO2 percentage on room air to use as a goal for discontinuing the therapy is populated from the upper limit you entered for the SpO2 range.
O2 Nasal Cannula: Select the flow rate (L/min) from the Adult/Pedi drop-down list.
Aerosol Therapy: Click (or press the corresponding letter) to select one or more therapies. For Other, type a description. Type the O2 Amount % for each selection. The SpO2 percentage on room air to use as a goal for discontinuing the therapy is populated from the upper limit you entered for the SpO2 range.
Humidified O2 to Tracheostomy: Click (or press the corresponding letter) to select one or more therapies. For the trach mask and Briggs (T) adaptor, the default goal is to Titrate to Above SpO2 Range, which requires that you enter target parameters for SpO2 . To define a different goal, click to select the O2 Amount % option and type the amount. For Other, type a description and the O2 Amount %. The SpO2 percentage on room air to use as a goal for discontinuing the therapy is populated from the upper limit you entered for the SpO2 range.
High Flow O2 Therapy: The default goal is to Titrate to Above SpO2 Range, which requires that you enter target parameters for SpO2 . To define a different goal, click to select the O2 Amount % option and type the amount. The SpO2 percentage on room air to use as a goal for discontinuing the therapy is populated from the upper limit you entered for the SpO2 range.
Simple Face Mask, Ventimask: Type the O2 Amount %.
Other: Type the treatment (hood, tent, etc.) and the O2 Amount %.
Select a start time (Now or Other ).
Click OK (ALT+O).
Write additional orders as needed, then sign the session.
