Children are defined in Order Entry (except for chemotherapy) as patients who had not passed their nineteenth (19th) birthdays on admission. By default, children who were less than 28 days old on admission are placed in the Neonate orders group; all others are Pediatric.
Age groups are used to determine various default settings and options for orders for Medications, IV Fluids, General Care, Respiratory, and Vitals.
Age Group Override allows you to use pediatric settings and options for selected orders, instead of neonate parameters.
Age Group Override is available only for patients less than one (1) year old on admission.
The override affects orders in the IV Fluids, General Care, Respiratory, and Vitals order types. It does NOT affect medications. (You can select the age group when searching for a medication as you write a med order.)
Any change is effective through the inpatient stay unless it is reversed using this same function. You must reset the override to neonate if you do not want pediatric settings and options.
