Orders must be signed before the Patient Meal Worksheets for that mealtime are printed. Food and Nutrition Services has set the cutoff time for printing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
If you haven't already:
Click Write (ALT+W).
Click Food and Nutrition (ALT+N).
Click Oral Diet and Food Restrictions (ALT+O).
Complete the form
Click an option to select from the Texture/Consistency options.
For information from Nutrition & Food Services on texture/consistency options, click More Info (ALT+O). Click Cancel to return to the oral diet form.
The Research Diet option is approved for Clinical Research Center patients on White 13 only.
For the following options, complete when prompted:
Regular—select an age group from the associated drop-down list.
Esophageal—select an option from the associated drop-down list.
Advancing Diet Protocol by RN (this option is approved for general surgery only)
To select one or more Special Needs, click a checkbox.
If needed, click Diet Modifications (ALT+M).
Diet modifications are not available for patients on the Clinical Research Center diet on White 13.
For information from Nutrition & Food Services on modifications, click More Info (ALT+O). Click Cancel to return to the modifications form.
For information from Nutrition & Food Services on weight-based protein intake for certain diagnoses, click Protein Modifications Guidelines (ALT+U). Click Cancel to return to the modifications form.
Select an option from as many of the lists as needed.
Click a checkbox to select one or more options from the More Modifications section.
Click OK (ALT+O) to return to the order form.
To order supplements, click the associated checkbox. Complete as follows:
Click to select a Product, and then the frequency, from the associated drop-down lists.
To deselect the default option to follow a dietician's recommendations, click the checkbox.
Adding supplements to the order automatically triggers an order for Nutrition Consult.
For Fluid Restrictions (ALT+L), select a volume or No fluids on tray from the drop-down list. (Fluids are also included in the diet modifications, step 5, above).
To indicate problem foods, click one or more options in the Food Restrictions list. Alternately, press the down arrow then spacebar to highlight one or more items.
Type instructions as needed. (You can type over the informational text, which will not appear as part of the order regardless).
Do not use instructions to indicate diet texture or consistency, modifications, special needs, supplements, fluid restrictions, or food restrictions.
Select a Time (Now or Other ).
Click OK (ALT+O).
If you ordered supplements, you are prompted to order a consult with a Registered Dietician from the Department of Nutrition and Food Services. See Responding to the Prompt for Consequent Orders.
Orders that include supplements automatically generate a second order, for a nutrition consult. See Overview of Consequent Orders .
If the patient already has an oral diet order:
Click Cancel New Order (ALT+N) to leave the existing order as is.
Click Keep New Order (ALT+K) to discontinue the existing order and continue with the new order.
Write additional orders as needed, then sign the session.
