Order Nutrition and Food Services—Advancing Diet Protocol by RN

 

Orders must be signed before the Patient Meal Worksheets for that mealtime are printed. Food and Nutrition Services has set the cutoff time for printing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

  1. Select the patient.

  2. Click Write (ALT+W).

  3. Click Food and Nutrition (ALT+N).

  4. Click Oral Diet and Food Restrictions (ALT+O).

  5. Click the Advancing Diet Protocol by RN option.

This option is approved for general surgery only. For other oral diets and restrictions, see Oral Diets.

  1. Select a protocol option.

  2. Select an initial diet from the Start from drop-down list.

  3. Select a dietary goal from the End with drop-down list.

  4. If the nurse can discharge the patient on meeting the dietary goals, click the Authorize to D/C by RN checkbox (ALT+A).

  5. Click OK (ALT+O).

  6. To select one or more Special Needs, click a checkbox.

  7. If needed, click Diet Modifications (ALT+M).

Diet modifications are not available for patients on the CRC Research diet. See step 3 for additional information.

For information from Nutrition & Food Services on modifications, click More Info (ALT+O). Click Cancel to return to the modifications form.

For recommendations from Nutrition & Food Services on weight-based protein intake for certain diagnoses, click Protein Modifications Guidelines (ALT+U). Click Cancel to return to the modifications form.

  1. To order supplements, click the associated checkbox. Complete as follows:

  1. To indicate problem foods, click one or more options in the Food Restrictions list. Alternately, press the down arrow then spacebar to highlight one or more items.

  2. Type instructions as needed. (You can type over the informational text, which will not appear as part of the order regardless).

Do not use instructions to indicate diet texture or consistency, modifications, special needs, supplements, fluid restrictions, or food restrictions.

  1. Select a Time (Now or Other ).

  2. Click OK (ALT+O).
