Order Respiratory—Neonatal O2 and Aerosol Therapy

• The default options and settings are determined by age group. To override the age group for a neonate, see Changing a Neonate Age For Orders.

• If you haven't already:

1. Select the patient.

2. Click Write (ALT+W).

3. Click Respiratory (ALT+P).

4. Click O2 and Aerosol Therapy (ALT+O).

Some respiratory orders are available only for inpatients.

• Complete the form

5. The option for O2 therapy: evaluate patient for most effective device is selected by default. To change, click an option (or press ALT + the underlined letter) to select O2 Nasal Cannula or Other under Select a Method.

6. Type lower and upper limits to define a target SpO2 range for therapy.

7. Click the D/C checkbox if you want the treatment stopped on achieving the target SpO2.

8. Complete the order as follows for these selections:

• O2 Therapy evaluation: Click to select O2 Flow Rate or O2 Amount option. Select a Start Dose and Adjustment limitation from the associated drop-down lists. Type the SpO2 on room air to use as a goal for discontinuing the therapy. (The D/C checkbox in the upper section of the form is disabled for this option.)

• O2 Nasal Cannula: Click option A and select a volume from the associated drop-down list, or click option B, type the concentration of O2 (%), and select a flow rate from the associated drop-down list.

• Other: Type the treatment (hood, tent, etc.), the O2 Amount %, and a Frequency/Duration description.

9. Select a start time (Now or Other ).

10. Click OK (ALT+O).

• Write additional orders as needed, then sign the session.
