Order Medications and Write Prescriptions for Discharge Medications

This form can be completed by an MD, PA, NP, RN, or medical student. If completed by an RN or medical student, it must be cosigned. For additional information, see the Overview of Discharge Orders, Instructions, and the Patient Care Referral Form.

Face Sheet Discharge Orders and Instructions are not available in the newborn nurseries. You cannot access the forms, even if you select a patient from the associated maternity unit lists or from patient lookup.

  1. Select the patient and click Face Sheet Discharge (ALT+F) or Discharge (ALT+G).

  2. If needed, click the Medications folder to access the form.

The PAML is only available if the list is in progress, ready for review, or reviewed.

Medications on the PAML with planned action on admission to continue or substitute should be included in the active medication orders. Active meds are listed on the left.

  1. If the PAML is not displayed, click the vertical PAML Meds button to the right of the list.

  2. For more information, hold the mouse pointer over the object for a moment:

  1. Click pamlInDischargeAddButton_copy.gif for the medication in the PAML to move it to the discharge meds list.

  2. Complete the order—see Writing Medication Orders.

Medications that have been added to the discharge medications list from the PAML on the right are displayed with a checkmark.

  1. Click Save.

  2. Type your signing key in the field provided.

  3. Click Yes or No to indicate whether the patient is ready to be discharged. If Yes, click one or more checkboxes to sign off on the discharge.

  4. Click OK (ALT+O).
