Order Medications and Write Prescriptions for Discharge Meds

This form can be completed by an MD, PA, NP, RN, or medical student. If completed by an RN or medical student, it must be cosigned. For additional information, see the Overview of Discharge Orders, Instructions, and the Patient Care Referral Form.

Face Sheet Discharge Orders and Instructions are not available in the newborn nurseries. You cannot access the forms, even if you select a patient from the associated maternity unit lists or from patient lookup.

  1. Select the patient and click Face Sheet Discharge (ALT+F) or Discharge (ALT+G).

  2. If needed, click the Medications folder to access the form.

Discharge orders cannot be signed as final (that is, "the patient is ready to go") until the PAML is signed as PAML Creation: Complete, and the statement described next is checked off.

  1. Click to check Discharge meds reviewed/reconciled with the PAML meds.

  2. If the PAML is not signed as PAML Creation: Complete, you will be notified. Click OK (ALT+O) to open the PAML builder. (See Signing the PAML Creation: Complete, with additional information on updating the list.)

Exiting the PAML automatically returns to the Discharge Meds page. The verification remains checked only if the PAML is signed as PAML Creation: Complete. If you cannot sign the PAML as complete, you cannot check off the statement, and you cannot sign the discharge orders as final ("patient is ready to go").

  1. Click Save.

  2. Type your signing key in the field provided.

  3. Click Yes or No to indicate whether the patient is ready to be discharged. If Yes, click one or more checkboxes to sign off on the discharge.

  4. Click OK (ALT+O).
