Type the first part of the order (up to the place for the first variable) in the Label Text 1 field.
To add a variable, click the first unused Variable checkbox. The Variable Definition window opens.
Click an option button to choose the Numeric, Free-text, or Combo type.
Define parameters for the variable:
For the numeric type, type values for a minimum and maximum to set an acceptable range for entries.
For free-text, type the number of character spaces the field will display (field width). This doesn't limit the number of characters that the user can enter.
For the combo field, type each drop-down list item and press enter. To erase an item, click to select it, then click Remove.
Click OK (ALT+O).
You can add up to three variables (entry fields) to any custom-defined general care other order.
Labels can be set to the left (before), the right (after), or both sides of an entry field.
Labels and variable parameters cannot be edited once you click OK. You must create a new order if the current order is not correct.
Only the Pharmacy related setting can be changed once the order is on the template. See Editing Order Properties.
Check the preview at the top of the order definer dialog box to be sure that the order you're writing will fit on the template.
Continue to add text and variables (up to three) as described above.
Type instructions if needed. (Instructions are indicated on the template with <I> at the end of the order.)
Click OK (ALT+O). Your selection is listed in the template orders as typed, with XXX marking variable fields.
