Responding to Drug-Allergy Interventions

When you record an allergy to any medication, the patient's existing medication orders are checked for possible adverse reactions. If the patient has active orders for any medications containing the allergen or belonging to the same allergy group, the Drug Warnings window opens. All medication orders that are affected are listed.

• Respond to the warning:

1. Click Keep Order(s) (ALT+K). This is the only option.

2. Type a reason for the override in the field provided, then click Close (ALT+C).  The summary view of each medication order is flagged with <IOvr>, and the intervention and override are documented in the order details.

• To discontinue existing medication orders:

1. Close the Allergies/Adverse Reactions list.

2. Click Medications (ALT+M) on the session orders list.

• To open Knowledge Link:

• Click to access KnowledgeLink.

• Click Exit (ALT+E) to close KnowledgeLink.

• Click Pop Out (ALT+P) to open KnowledgeLink in a separate window from the CAS.

• Toggle between Order Entry and KnowledgeLink by clicking the icons in the taskbar.

• Click to close the KnowledgeLink window.
