Nobody can write any kind of order—inpatient, pre-admission, transfer, or post-op—in Provider Order Entry for a patient whose Order Status includes ORDERS ON PAPER.
If you haven't already:
Click Special Orders (ALT+O).
Click Indicate Paper vs. On-Line (ALT+I).
Select an option:
If paper orders exist, click Patient Orders on Paper.
If there are no longer any paper orders, click Patient Orders in Order Entry system.
Save the status:
Click OK (ALT+O).
Type your signing key when prompted.
Click OK (ALT+O). The "ORDERS ON PAPER" status in the UCM is displayed or removed to reflect your choice.
No one can write new orders into the system until the ORDERS ON PAPER status code is removed. Operations staff (OAs, OMs, PCAs, PCIAs, etc.), nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and certified nurse midwives are all authorized to set or remove the Orders on Paper status.
