Only one active restraint order is allowed. The duration of restraints is limited to ensure careful monitoring of clinical necessity.
Active behavioral restraints—If the selected patient has an active order for behavioral restraints, all ordering clinicians are reminded when writing additional orders. Behavioral restraints expire at midnight at the end of the calendar day after the restraint was signed. Click OK (ALT+O) to acknowledge the reminder.
Active non-behavioral restraints—If the selected patient has an active order for non-behavioral restraints, all MDs, PAs, and NPs are reminded to complete the daily assessment when writing additional orders.
To update the daily assessment, click Document Assessment (ALT+A). See Ordering Restraints - Completing the Daily Assessment.
To discontinue the order without writing another, click D/C Existing Restraint Order (ALT+E).
To write a different restraint order and automatically discontinue the current restraint, click New Order (ALT+N). See Ordering Restraints.
To leave the daily assessment for later or for another provider to complete, click Defer (ALT+D). The reminder displays every day that the order is active, for every ordering provider, until the assessment form is completed.
Order restraint when an active restraint exists—If the patient has an active restraint order, clinicians are prompted when opening the restraint order form.
To discontinue the current order and write another, click New Order (ALT+N). See Ordering Restraints.
To leave the current order as is, click Cancel (ALT+C).
Expired restraint—If the patient had a restraint order that expired the previous day, clinicians are prompted when opening the VS/Monitors/Restraints orders list.
To write a new restraint order, click Order (ALT+O). See Ordering Restraints.
To skip writing another restraint order, click Cancel (ALT+C).
