The selected patient has an active order for an indwelling urinary catheter. All MDs, NPs, PAs, and CNMs are reminded to assess the need to continue the order when writing additional orders. The timing for the reminder depends on the primary indication for ordering the catheter.
To discontinue the order, click D/C Existing Order (ALT+E).
To continue the order, click Continue Existing Order (ALT+C).
When prompted, click to select all relevant indications for the order. The 24-hour post-op reason is inactive if it was selected at a previous reminder.
Click OK (ALT+O).
The reminder continues to display at the appropriate interval for the primary indication, for every ordering provider.
To leave the routine assessment for later or for another provider to complete:
Click the Defer button that indicates whether you are the responding/responsible clinician: Defer, I AM the Responsible clinician (ALT+D), or Defer, I am NOT the Responsible clinician (ALT+F).
If you are the responding/responsible clinician, when prompted, click to select the reason you are deferring the decision to continue or discontinue the order. For Other, type a description.
Click OK (ALT+O).
When prompted, review and edit the type of catheter:
Click the checkboxes to select/deselect one or more options.
For Other, type a description.
Type instructions as needed.
The reminder continues to display for every ordering provider, until the order is discontinued, or the indications for continuing are entered, when the appropriate time has elapsed.
