Order Diagnostic Studies—EMG (Nerve Conduction Studies)

• If you haven't already:

1. Select the patient.

2. Click Write (ALT+W).

3. Click Diagnostic Studies (ALT+I).

4. Click EMG (Nerve Conduction Studies) (ALT+M).

• The default order is a Neurology Consult.

1. Click OK (ALT+O).

2. The consult order form opens automatically, pre-filled with the appropriate  service. Complete the form -- see Ordering Consults.

• The consult order is not displayed on the Current Diag Orders list. Click Close (ALT+C).

• The consult order is displayed in the list of orders for the session, as well as the Consult orders list.

• To order an inpatient EMG (Nerve Conduction Study):

1. Click the option for EMG (Nerve Conduction Study).

2. Review the advisory regarding results in the inpatient setting, then click OK (ENTER). Click Cancel (ALT+C) if the inpatient order is not needed.

3. To order conscious sedation, click Yes in the Sedation needed field. For adult patients, click the option for the sedative needed.

4. Type the diagnosis, questions to be answered, and clinical information in the fields provided.

5. To order Stat or Urgent testing, click Yes, then type a reason in the field provided.

6. Type instructions as needed.

7. Click OK (ALT+O).

8. For Stat/Urgent orders, click Close (ALT+C) to acknowledge the Neurology scheduling message.

9. For pediatric patients needing conscious sedation, click OK (ALT+O) to acknowledge the alert that you must call to coordinate the exam with the PICU CSS (Conscious Sedation Service).

• Write additional orders as needed, then sign the session.
