April 24, 2015—Prescriptions for Services, Equipment, and Supplies for Discharge
Discharge orders for have been enhanced to allow providers to write orders for durable medical equipment and supplies as well as services, and to generate completed prescriptions to print and send home with the patient.
Key features:
The Services folder in Discharge orders has been relabeled as Services/Equipment/Supplies.
A list of commonly ordered equipment and supplies has been added as a new section to the Services/Equipment/Supplies folder.
MDs, NPs, PAs, and CNMs can open the non-med prescription form by clicking a checkbox for an order for an outpatient service (except nutrition), equipment, or supply.
For orders for outpatient services, such as physical therapy, the prescription form automatically includes the service; providers must provide the diagnosis or reason, and can also include comments. Providers still have the option to define the service if the one that's needed is not listed.
For orders for durable medical equipment, as well as supplies for diabetes, respiratory therapy, or wound care, the prescription form includes a list of common items to select from. Providers also have the option to define the equipment or supply type and item if the what's needed is not listed.
Nutrition service orders do not have prescriptions associated with Order Entry; clicking the Rx checkbox for nutrition opens the MGH Nutrition & Food Services prescription form. This can be printed and filled out when needed.
Prescriptions for services, equipment, and supplies can be updated as needed, and printed for the patient to take home.
