February 12, 2013—ED to Admit
As of 2/12/2013, providers in the ED and on inpatient care units will have the option to review and re-order active Emergency Department orders for patients being admitted from the ED treatment areas. The orders can be initiated from the ED, then activated on the inpatient care unit, or initiated from the inpatient care unit if the patient arrives without them. ED to Admit is intended to replace the use of Pre-Admit sessions for patients who are admitted from the Emergency Department.
Key Elements:
Providers in the ED can write ED to Admit orders for any patient as soon as the need for admission is identified
Patients with ED to Admit sessions awaiting activation have the ED to Admit Order Status flag
ED to Admit orders written from an ED treatment area must be activated on the inpatient unit when the patient arrives
If a patient with orders flagged <ED order only > arrives in observation or on an inpatient unit without ED to Admit orders, providers writing new inpatient orders are prompted to either write the ED to Admit orders or to inactivate all orders previously written in the main ED
ED to Admit orders written from an inpatient care unit are active on signing
Activation of ED to Admit orders immediately inactivates all current active orders except chemotherapy, whether inpatient or ED
