Draft notes can only be viewed by the author of the note and are not a part of the patient record. To make it an official part of the record, you must save the note as Preliminary or Final.
Draft notes are automatically deleted after six months. You will be notified of the impending deletion via clinical message or e-mail beginning two weeks prior to the six month deletion date.
Note: If you try to create more than one draft note for the same patient on a particular service date, you will be prompted to either open the current draft note or create a new note.
To save a draft note to the patient’s record:
1. If you haven't already, go to the Document Management module. Document Management defaults to displaying your Preliminary queue. Click Draft at the top of the screen to display your Draft notes.
2. Click the subject of the note you want to display.
3. Edit the note, as desired.
4. Click either Prelim to save the note as Preliminary or Final to save the note as Final.
5. If you want to save your work now, click Sign (F10). The LMR indicates the changes that will be saved. Type your key and click Sign.
To resave a draft note as a draft:
1. If you haven't already, go to the Document Management module. Document Management defaults to displaying your Preliminary queue. Click Draft at the top of the screen to display your Draft notes.
2. Click the subject of the note you want to display.
3. Edit the note, as desired.
4. Click Draft.
5. If you want to save your work now, click Sign (F10). The LMR indicates the changes that will be saved. Type your key and click Sign.
