Using Filter and Search Options for Notes

The Notes module provides different ways to filter your notes list, making it easier to find specific notes. These include using the standard folders (filter buttons), by creating custom folders, or by using the AutoFilter option.

You can also perform a full-text search to locate a specific word or phrase in all notes for the selected patient. To do so, click the View link for any note. Then, type your desired search string into the field at the bottom of the screen, and click Find Next. If found, the LMR highlights the note in the list on the left and opens it.

• Using Standard Folders

  Two sets of filter buttons display at the top of the screen to help you locate specific notes. (The default selections, Entire List and All, display all notes for the patient.) To limit the list, click any of the following:

  - Restricted Notes (if displayed)

  - Notes

  - Letters

  - Scanned

  - Retracted

  - Practice

  - My

  - My Visit Notes

  You can also use the following additional standard folders. However, you must first add them to the target custom folders list. See Maintaining the Custom Folders List for details.

  - Results

  - My Documents

  - Consultantions

  - Practice Gateway

• Using Custom Folders

  The Create Folder link allows you to create a custom folders to filter the notes list based on specific criteria for Category, Type, Setting, Specialty, Professional Training, and Origin. Once created, you can work with these folders in the same way as standard folders. For additional information, see Working with Custom Folders.

• Using the AutoFilter option

  The AutoFilter option allows you to limit the list of notes using specific criteria (such as date or subject). The resulting list includes only those meeting your specified criteria, making it easier to find individual notes.

  1.   If you haven't already, go to the Notes module.

  2.   Click the AutoFilter option in the upper right corner of the Notes list. The LMR displays a criteria selector for each column heading of the Notes list.

  3.   Click the to select the specific criteria you want to use to filter the Notes list. For example, to include only notes for a certain date, click the beneath the Date field. The drop-down list displays all dates for which this patient has notes. Click any date to limit the Notes list to only notes with a matching date.

  Note: You can use more than one AutoFilter option at a time. For example, you can choose to include only notes with a specific subject by a specific author.
