Overview of the Comm Column

The Comm (Communication) column, on the far right, indicates the status of the referral sent to the specialist. 

This column remains empty until the LMR attempts to send the referral. This occurs either 2 days before the visit, or as soon as the referral is saved if the option to Send Immediately is selected. Icons displaying in this column include the following (click below for details):

  Displays if the option to include a Clinical Summary and the option to Print are selected. This referral should be manually printed and mailed, if not already done. Hover you mouse pointer over the icon to see if the referral was printed.

  Displays if any of the “send by” transmissions (clinical message, e-mail, or fax) were successful. Hover your mouse pointer to display additional details regarding these transmissions (such as date/time sent).

  Note that if the Clinical Summary option was selected, the tool tip includes “CCD not printed yet” even though there may be no need to print it. If the fax option was selected, you must still manually print and mail the CCD.

  Also note that if the Print option was selected and the Clinical Summary option was not, the tool tip states, “Printed on mm/dd/yyyy” even if the specialist referral letter was not printed. The specialist referral letter and CCD need to be manually printed and mailed.

  Displays if all “send by” transmissions were unsuccessful. This can only occur if the Clinical Summary option was selected and the CCD could not be created. You can attempt to resend by reselecting the specialist provider and saving the referral again. Or, if fields to select the specialist provider are unavailable, resend by closing the referral and then copying it from the Close queue.

  Displays if CDA is in process of being prepared. This icon typically displays only momentarily.
