Single word—Double-click the word.
Text that goes beyond the display—Click the beginning of the text, press SHIFT, scroll to the end, and then click the end of the text.
Phrases, sentences, blocks of text: Click and drag—Click the beginning of the text, hold the mouse button down, move the pointer to the end of the text, and then release the mouse button.
Phrases, sentences, blocks of text: Keyboard—Text that links to other displays (email addresses, web sites, and other pages in the application) can be useful to have but hard to select because you follow the link when you click. Use the keyboard to select text like this. Click to place the cursor in or near the text. Press the keys as described below to position the cursor at your starting point. Use the same keys or key combinations while holding down the SHIFT key to select text from the cursor:
HOME or END—to the beginning or end of the line.
UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW—to the same position on the line above or below. Press again to move further in the same direction.
CTRL+LEFT ARROW or CTRL+RIGHT ARROW—one word to the left or right.
LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW—one letter to the left or right.
CTRL+HOME or CTRL+END—to the beginning or end of the entry.
PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN—to the top or bottom of the text in portions that fit in the display area. Press again to move further in the same direction.
