The orders required by a protocol or regimen in Provider Order Entry are organized into sets of folders. There are several types of folders:
Protocols (purple) and Regimens (red) which contain all of the orders for a particular treatment
Container folders (yellow) that organize the orders into logical groups, such as cycles, arms, or doses
Branch folders (yellow) used to prompt for the selection of one treatment out of a group of mutually exclusive options
Order sets (green) that group orders based on type—for example, chemo medications or antiemetics
Click a folder to display its orders in the right-hand pane. You can browse through any of the folders in the protocol. Folders that have already been used to write orders are displayed with a red check.
POE automatically opens the correct protocol or regimen folder based on either the patient's Quality Assurance Clinical Trials (QACT) or pediatric enrollment (protocols only) or the information you enter when you start a chemo order. You must then select the container folder with the orders you need, then go through each of the order sets inside that container, checking off the orders for your patient.
