Writing Perioperative Orders Without a Template

 

  1. Select a patient.

  2. Click Post-OP Surgeon (ALT+P).

  1. If post-op orders have been activated for the selected patient within the last eight (8) hours, you are prompted to start a new set of orders or add to the existing orders. Click to select an option, then click OK (ALT+O).

  1. For new post-op sessions for patients with active orders, the Active Orders Present options are displayed. Click to select an option, then click OK (ALT+O).

  1. For each item on the list, click the corresponding checkbox to indicate whether to Continue or Inactivate the order when the post-op orders are activated.

  2. Click OK (ALT+O).
    Continued orders are displayed in the Surgery Post-OP Orders session scratch pad.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the orders list, or click Additional Orders (ALT+A).

  2. Click the order type you need.

  3. If needed, click the appropriate button to open a specific order form. (This is not needed for Consults, IV Fluids, or Laboratory.) Click Add (ALT+A) to open the medication order form.

  4. Complete the order form and click OK (ALT+O).

  5. If needed, click Close (ALT+C) to return to the Surgery Post-OP Orders scratch pad. The new order is listed here.

  6. Add orders from all types as needed.

  7. Sign the orders.
