The Ambulatory Blood Product Consent function records the existence of a paper consent form that has been signed by the patient receiving any blood products. This electronic record provides witness to the administering RN or NP that the patient has given written consent, so that the nurse can start treatment without having to find the paper form at that moment.
Once the patient signs the paper blood product consent, an MD or NP can start the record by entering the consent date and signing. The status of the consent record remains Open until an RN signs. An MD or NP can change the consent date or delete the consent record as long as it has not been signed by an RN. Once the RN signature is complete, the status becomes Active.
Active blood product consent records cannot be deleted. Blood Product Consents at MGH expire after six (6) months; at DFCI after one (1) year.
