Rewrite IV Fluid Orders on Expiration

One day after an IV Fluid order has started, at 6:00 am, Order Entry activates the IV Renewal Reminder function. First, the patient's Order Status field displays the IV Rewrite flag. Second, when an Attending, House Officer, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant starts to write routine or special (transfer, pre-admission, or rewrite) orders, this reminder is presented.

  1. Click Rewrite or DC Active IV(s) (ALT+R). A list of current active IV Fluid orders requiring renewal is displayed.

  2. Click the corresponding checkbox for each order on the list to either Continue or Inactivate the order.

  3. Click OK (ALT+O). The Orders For This Session scratch pad opens. The IV Rewrite Session is listed as a new order. If you continued any IVs, each is listed as a new order, with a new start date and time.

  4. Write other orders as needed.

  5. Sign the order session to save it.
