Order Blood Products—Transfusion Restrictions

• If you haven't already:

1. Select the patient.

2. Click Write (ALT+W).

3. Click Blood Products (ALT+B).

4. Click Transfusion Restrictions (ALT+I).

Restrictions can also be ordered from the Transfusion order form.

• Complete the form

5. To display information from Blood Transfusion Services (BTS) about restrictions that do not require approval from a BTS MD, click the associated More button.

• Click the CAS icon in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen to bring Order Entry to the front without closing the information window; click the icon for the information window to toggle back.

• Click to close the information window.

6. Click a checkbox or press the letter corresponding to an option to select one or more restrictions from the available list.

7. MGH Blood Transfusion Services: Type a description of any changes made during BTS review in the BTS section.

8. Click OK (ALT+O).

Patients should have only one restrictions order, which should appear when you click the Restrictions button on the Blood Products list, or on the Transfusion or Crossmatch order forms.(In the event that more than one order exists, edit one to describe all restrictions, then delete the others. Once a patient is down to a single set of restrictions, multiple orders should no longer occur.)

• Write additional orders as needed, then sign the session.
