Day of procedure orders are written from workstations is the Center for Perioperative Care (CPC). The orders can be written in advance of the patient's arrival date, in a distinct session for the date the orders are needed, that allows staff to add new orders as well as view and edit existing ones. Pharmacy is able to review and approve medication and IV fluid orders in advance. When needed, CPC staff activate the orders to include them in the patient record. Activated orders are then carried out as appropriate, including communication of the orders to departments such as pharmacy and laboratories.
The UCM for PATA displays all patients who have a PATA location for the current day, sent to POE from PATA Scheduling. Selecting from the Associated Unit List limits the list to patients in the chosen slot location.
Day of procedure orders are linked to the patient's admission status:
TBD
activate on date?
Day of procedure orders must be activated when needed.
When the patient is listed in the UCM, "Pre-Admit" appears in the Order Status column. When these orders are activated, the status message changes to "Pending."
??Pre-admission orders over 60 days old are automatically discarded from the system.
A patient record can have only one set of pre-admission orders for a particular date. There is no limit to the number of sessions per patient -- however, the admission date for each session must be different.
Pre-admission orders can be discarded before activation, but once activated must be discontinued the same as any other active orders.
