For instructions, see Building the Pre-Admission Medications List (MSL to PAML)
The MSL to PAML comparison provides a side-by-side display of the records in the electronic medication source list (MSL) and those in the current pre-admission medications list (PAML). The comparison highlights differences between the two lists, and provides many of the functions of the PAML builder for updating the list.
Side-by-side—Before any records are added to the PAML, the comparison has one row for each record from the MSL. If a record added to the PAML matches a source, it displays in the same row on the PAML side (green, right). The match can be a med added manually to the PAML. If the PAML record was added from the source list, the row has a check in the P column (just as in the PAML builder itself).
Highlighting—Source records with no match in the PAML are highlighted in orange; the PAML half of the row is empty. Records added manually to the PAML, without a match in the source list, are highlighted in green; the MSL half of the row is empty. If a PAML record matches a source medication name, but there is some difference in route, dosing, or frequency, the records display in the same row, with the difference only highlighted in both.
Sorting— By default, the comparison list is sorted by the dates of the records in the source list (left, in orange). To track substitutions more easily, you can sort the list by class, either that of the source records, or of the PAML records. You can also sort alphabetically by the generic name of the medications. The matched records are always aligned, regardless of the sort order. The sort marker 6 indicates which column is used.
Add or Add & Modify from MSL—By clicking a button in an active MSL row (highlighted in orange, with no matching PAML record), you can add or modify and add a record; the process for each is the same as in the PAML builder.
Add, Modify, Remove, or Update PAML records—You can add, modify, and remove records from the PAML here, just as in the builder. The entries for Medication Taken At, Medication Details, and Planned Action on Admission are all carried forward from the builder. You can change any of these as needed, just as in the builder.
Printing—Clicking Print generates a paper copy of the comparison as displayed.
