July 9, 2013—Discharge Medications: Prescription Print Status and Nursing Instructions for the PDML
Prescription printing—The print status of each prescription is indicated in the RX Print column for the discharge medication. Hold the mouse pointer over the heading to display the abbreviation key:
N = Not printed
U = Printed to the unit printer, do not send to MGH pharmacy
UO = Printed to unit and MGH outpatient pharmacy
Medication instructions—RNs and NPs can write nursing instructions for any med on the Discharge Medications list. These instructions print on the Face Sheet, Patient Care Referral, Nursing Discharge Note, and Patient Discharge Medications List (PDML). Discharge meds with nursing instructions are flagged with <NI> in the Inst column. To add instructions, click to select a medication, then click Nursing Discharge Med Instructions. Click the <NI> flag to edit. Hold the mouse pointer over the <NI> flag to display the instructions temporarily (includes MD/NP/PA instructions if available).
