Additives in Chemotherapy Infusions
When chemotherapy agents are ordered as infusions mixed with additional IV fluids, the dose of any additives is calculated automatically. The total dose for the electrolyte will display in the summary and detail (zoom) views, the chemo medication Additives tab in the chemotherapy order player, and on the paper printout. Additives include calcium gluconate, magnesium sulfate, potassium acetate, potassium chloride, potassium phosphate, sodium acetate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium phosphate, heparin, and sodium chloride. The formula to calculate the dose is amount of additive (mEq, mMol, or Gm) per liter x total volume of fluid (liter).
