December 14, 2010—PAML Integration For ED Boarders
Providers writing medication orders for patients in the Emergency Department are able to initiate the orders from the pre-admission medication list (PAML). This feature was already available for inpatients on the care units. The PAML should be created for patients in the ED who have been admitted and are awaiting an inpatient bed assignment (ED boarders).
Key features:
This feature is intended for the use of hospital services attending ED boarder patients.
PAML medications are displayed on the right side of the current medications list, and can be displayed or hidden by clicking the +PAML Meds+ button on the right edge of the list.
PAML medications must have a planned action on admission to be used to initiate an inpatient order. In addition, medications that are flagged to discontinue or as uncertain cannot be used to initiate an inpatient order.
Providers in the ED will not be prompted to complete the PAML on any patient in the ED.
